The Wine
Experience
Wine Tears
Have you ever had anyone hold up a
glass of wine and pronounce, "Just look at the legs on this wine!"
?
So what do legs have to do with wine?
Well the so-called legs are the thin layer of liquid that oozes
down the side of the glass when you swirl it.
Right there its confusing. After
all, they look more like tears.
These tears don't tell us about the
quality of the wine, but they can give us a hint about its body
and alcohol level. The higher the alcohol content, the longer
flowing and slower are the tears moving down the side of the glass.
Alcohol content adds to the fullness
of wine. Higher alcohol equals more body and more body equals
a bigger rounder taste. That's good to know, especially if there's
food involved.
So checking
out the tears in the wineglass does make some sense for it can set
some expectations for the wine experience that follows.
