The Wine
Experience
Sediment
Every
so often you may find yourself enjoying a glass of wine, get down
to the bottom of it and discover some grainy dark little particles
resting in the glass. Those gritty and bitter little particles
are what we call sediment.
Now,
not to worry. Sediment isn’t harmful and it doesn’t
indicate that anything is wrong with the wine either. In
fact, sediment often tells us that the wine is perhaps a bit more
complex, unfiltered during production or aged.
You
see the sediment is the residue of the tannins, grape skins and
color pigment that is suspended in the wine, but some falls out
and gathers in the bottom of the bottle.
If
you see sediment in the bottle just pour the wine slowly into
your glass or into a decanter before pouring it into your glass.
You
can think of sediment as little “flavor particles”
that indicate more richness in the wine.
It
always reminder us that wine is a product of nature and that’s
a good thing.
